On December 11, two frontier sentry boats of the Russian FSB Border Department in Abkhazia - named "Mangust" and "Sobol" - arrived for permanent deployment to the Abkhazian port of Ochamchira.

On this occasion, a solemn meeting took place in the port with participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Sergey Shamba, Russia's ambassador to Abkhazia Semyon Grigoriev and Yuri Zviryk, head of the FSB Border Department in Abkhazia.

"These two new frontier sentry boats will defend the sea border of the Republic of Abkhazia," said Mr Zviryk.

Russian ambassador Grigoriev has noted that this event became possible due to the August 2008 decision of Russian leadership to recognize independence of Abkhazia.

Georgia condemns the Russian-Abkhazian and Russian-South-Ossetian agreements on joint protection of state borders.

Moscow was perplexed about the decision made by the Ukrainian authorities to ban Moscow mayor Luzhkov from entering Ukraine. Moscow found nothing wrong with Luzkov's calls to start redrawing the Ukrainian map and handing the port city of Sevastopol, Crimea, to Russia.
