Russia is most likely preparing for another war against Georgia. As some sources in Tskhinvali report, Russian troops deployed missile systems Smerch (Tornado) in Russian-occupied Georgian province of South Ossetia.
According to preliminary data, 12 units of this MLRS (multiple launch rocket systems) were moved to the province. It is reported that a military expert, Zaur Alborov who is known for his inside information, posted on the Milcaucasus webforum a report that Russia moved 12 Smerch MLRS units with support equipment to the Russian-occupied Tskhinvali Region of Georgia. Zaur Alborov wrote that "the MLRS were moved last week, and everybody saw them during their transport on the Transcaucasian highway". He has also noted that "tactical exercises of different units, including some troops from the 4-th military base have been recently very active". The expert said that he got the information about the arrival of major offensive weapons in the occupied Tskhinvali region from official sources and gave a link. Analysts recall that the expert reported earlier in a the forum a Russian plan for the development of Russian aggression in war against Georgia in August 2008. The range of the MLRS Smerch (up to 90 km) makes it possible to bomb Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, directly from the occupied territories. The analysts believe that Moscow waited for the Ukrainian elections and coming to power of a pro-Moscow Ukrainian president, Yanukovich, who would not support Georgia in case it is once again attacked by revenge-seeking Russia.
