International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) released a report which name is “Perilous Assigments Journalists and Media Staff Killed in 2008″. According to this report the punishment of to be an opponent journalist is death!

According to IFJ’s report, In Russia violence is there all the time, the situation has been bad for many years now. Investigative journalism in Russia is a tough trade. The European Federation of Journalists is working hand in hand with the International Federation of Journalists to put pressure on Russian authorities to make sure that in the future there will be serious investigations into violence against journalists. No impunity for murderers of journalists, wherever they are, that is the simple and important rule to follow.

During last 15 years 124 journalist was killed because of their job and 189 was killed with other reasons in Russia.

There were an information about three journalist was killed in Russia last year. These journalists:

Gadzhi Abashilov, director of the state-owned radio and television company, Dagestan, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Makhachkala. According to media reports, Abashilov was killed as he was travelling in his chauffeur-driven car when gunmen open fire from submachine gun, killing Abashilov instantly. The driver was wounded and taken to hospital. (March 21, 2008)

Magomed Yevloev, founder of the website Ingushetia.ru, was critical of the Kremlin, died while he was in police custody, according to his website. Media reports quoted Russian prosecutors in Ingushetia as saying that “an incident’ took place after he was taken into a police car resulting in a shooting injury to the head and he later died in hospital’’. (August 31, 2008)

Abdullah Alishyev, a journalist and presenter of an Islamic television programme in Dagestan was shot dead by unidentified gunmen. According to reports, Alishyev was shot by two attackers as he sat in his car. He was wounded and taken to hospital where he underwent surgery but later died of his injuries. (September 2, 2008)
