Demonstration for Missing People in Chechnya

According to the Ichkeria.info website, a small demonstration was held in the capital of Russian occupied Chechnya, on November 29th. The protesters asked for the whereabouts of their missing or kidnapped relatives.

On November 29th, around 30 Chechen women demonstrated in the center of Grozny. The protesters hold photographs of their missing loved ones and demanded the return of their relatives.

“Anywhere in the world, even if you committed the most serious crime, first you must be tried; not assassinated without a trial as it happens in Chechnya,” said an NGO member.

“They must tell the truth to the relatives of these missing people. For many years in Chechnya, young people who were captured during the sweep operations of Russian soldiers and Kadyrovites have been kept in secret detention facilities. They are in jail under different names,” said a human rights activist.

According to the NGOs, more than 5 thousand civilians went missing in Chechnya during the Russian-Chechen wars, but the real numbers are much higher than mentioned. However it must be noted that civilians are still continue to disappear in Chechnya without a trace.
